The first time I read this book was about 20 years ago and I didn’t get it. Two mice running about named Sniff & Scurry, it was lost on me. Today, I get it. I’ve never seen a time of such unprecedented cheese moving within our industry, and for some, this is an anxiety producing nemesis of epic proportion. I admit, it’s scary. It’s also a time of unprecedented opportunity. The hard part is getting outside our comfort zone to hunt for new cheese, and sometimes that new cheese won’t look like cheese at all. It might look like wiener schnitzel, or a dandelion. Or smell different, like worcestershire sauce. (OK, I couldn’t help myself there, I just love saying those words!) So today we find ourselves about a year into the Great Cheese Moving pandemic, and we find ourselves learning how to pivot. Our resilience is being tested. Our faith is being tested. Our patience is being tested. But maybe it always was, and sometimes it just happens faster than we want or were ready for. And there is always hope. St. Paul says “suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint.” Maybe you’ve had all the character building you can stand, but If you haven’t had a chance, check out the book Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson. It’s a great read, and I hope you’ll find a new way through the maze of 2021!
